More than £600,000 to improve Salisbury car park
The multi-storey in Culver Street is getting a refurb
Steps are being taken to improve Culver Street car park which provides 400 spaces to shoppers
£26,000 is being spent on measures to reduce anti-social behaviour including a gate, studs and rumble strips as well as improvements to the stairwells.
It's hope that will deter so called 'boy racers' and deter drink and drug users.
Meanwhile £600,000 is being spent on 'essential' structural work including replacing the floor surface and tackling concrete corrosion.
The work will be done in two phases with the first expected to start in January.
Cllr Richard Clewer, Leader of Wiltshire Council, said:
“It’s important to us that the services and facilities we provide are of the highest quality.
“The repair works at Culver Street car park have been planned for quite some time following approval of the capital programme by Cabinet in February so I am pleased that we are now able to progress this project. A total of £600,000 has been allocated to the two phases of these works and we anticipate that phase one will commence early next year.
“These include replacement of the top floor surface coating, structural concrete repairs, and replacement of floor surface coatings on remaining floors. These types of facilities are used day in and day out by residents and it is important that we ensure they are safe for those who use them. The council is committed to working with partners to ensure that anti-social levels across Wiltshire remain low and therefore any measures to reduce anti-social behaviour that we can put in place are a positive step.”
