An old underground military telephone exchange buried in woodland on the outskirts of Salisbury has been given a new lease of life.

The Harnham Bunker has opened as a new creative hub giving predominantly young people an opportunity to develop their creative skills.

Almost 20 feet below the surface the 1500 square foot facility is set up to record both music and TV and has an audio production suite to create radio, podcasts and record vocals for music.

Workshops are being offered in music, creative media and coding with plans to also include gaming in the future too.

There's a range of weekend and after school projects along with a youth club on a Friday night.

Community Interest Company, The Underground Studios is running the operation

Andy Munns is one of the directors;

‘We have such a great reaction to the facilities that we have installed at The Bunker. It was already a cool building, but we have added a huge amount of equipment from our fully equipped studios to our gaming and chillout area. We hope that local young people come down, learn some new things but most importantly have a lot of fun.’

In addition, the team at The Bunker are also building relationships with local school and already working with several schools to offer sessions with pupils.

Fellow Director Alex Mobaraki said:

Working with schools is an integral part of our plan, the more young people we can work with, be creative with and teach new skills, the better!’
