Seven people fined after travelling from London to Stonehenge during lockdown
One woman was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker
Police were called to the Stonehenge visitor centre at around 1.30am yesterday morning (Monday 18th January).
A group of people had turned up to the site and were then refusing to leave.
Eight people, who all from the London area, are described as being 'obstructive with no good reason to be there'.
Four men and three women were each given £200 fines for breaching Covid-19 lockdown rules.
During the incident, a female police officer was hit in the face and suffered a cut to her eye.
A 57 year old woman was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.
She's since been released under investigation.
Sergeant Keith Jackson said:
"This was a challenging situation for the attending officers, dealing with obstructive individuals who failed to see the potential danger of their actions.
"This was a clear breach of the national lockdown restrictions and I hope this sends a strong message that we will take action when people deliberately and wilfully flout the rules and cause a risk to public health."
