Salisbury District Hospital have confirmed that another two patients have passed away there, having tested positive for Covid-19.

This means the total number of fatalities is at 258 since the pandemic began.

Positive in-patient numbers still remain high.

A spokesperson for Salisbury District Hospital said:

"Sadly, we can confirm that two patients who had been cared for at Salisbury District Hospital and had tested positive for COVID-19 have died. One patient who was in his 90s died on Friday 11th March. Another patient who was in her 90s died on Saturday 12th March. Both had underlying health conditions. 258 patients in total have now passed away.

Our thoughts and condolences are with their families and loved ones at this very difficult and distressing time.

We are still experiencing a high number of COVID-19 positive patients - there are currently 50 COVID-19 positive patients being treated at the hospital.

We would ask the public to remain cautious and to take appropriate precautions to avoid transmission. Although the government has lifted restrictions, the hospital’s COVID-19 measures remain in place until further notice. We remind visitors to the hospital that they must wear a face mask when in the hospital and have a negative lateral flow test before entering the buildings. They should not visit if they have any symptoms of COVID-19. In addition, with the current levels of COVID-19 still in our community, people should take up the invitation for a COVID-19 vaccine when offered. It is never too late to get a first vaccine.”
