Covid 19 outbreak at Salisbury District Hospital's spinal unit

Four patients at the facility have tested positive for the virus

Hospital bosses say 'swift action' has been taken to contain the outbreak at the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre.

The unit ,which has 42 beds, has been temporarily closed to visitors.

Judy Dyos, Director of Nursing, Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust said:

"We are currently managing an outbreak of COVID-19 at the self-contained Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre, where four patients have tested positive for COVID-19."

"We have taken swift appropriate action, in line with national guidance, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of patients and staff at the Centre in order to prevent further spread of the virus."

Patients are being closely monitored, COVID-19 testing for all inpatients and staff in the centre has been carried out in line with national guidance from PHE and wellbeing support is being provided."

"As a precautionary measure the Centre has been temporarily closed to visitors."
