Could booking a slot at Wiltshire's tips remain beyond Covid pandemic?

The system was changed when the country went into lockdown last March

Wiltshire residents are being asked what they think of the booking system in place for the county's household recycling centres.

In March 2020 some changes were made at our tips so people were unable to just turn up whenever.

Still to this day, we are being asked to pre-book a slot online and only arrive at the allocated time, this hopefully creating less queues at peak periods.

Wiltshire Council have now created an online form so people can leave their views on the changes.

Sam Fox, Corporate Director for Place and Environment, said:

"We introduced an online booking system at our household recycling centres (HRCs) in July last year to help manage demand and to enable people to socially distance effectively when on site.

We have been asking people who have used the service to comment on both the booking system and their experiences on site, so we can establish the benefits and limitations of the current system, and inform whether some form of booking system may continue in the future. Any decision on its future would be for the new Cabinet to decide after the elections.

So far we have had a significant number of comments from people who like the online booking system and the resulting lack of traffic queues, but also a number of comments from people who say they prefer the old way of just turning up to a HRC and taking their turn in a queue.

From 1 April, all our HRCs will switch to their summer opening times, and this will release more slots for people to book online.

Following the current guidance, we expect that the 2m social distancing requirements at the HRCs will need to remain in place until at least 21 June, and so access restrictions at our HRCs will remain in place for some time to come."
