A grant scheme, by Test Valley Borough Council, to support local groups and charities helping households through the cost of living crisis has doubled its budget.

The original £50,000 allocated to the project has risen to £100,000, with 29 organisations receiving cash so far.

They include:

  • £950.40 for Broughton Parish Council to set up a warm space, with free food, drink and activities for all ages
  • £1,000 for Wallop Primary School to provide a breakfast club and essential winter clothing for children
  • £1,500 for Unity, a charity covering the whole Test Valley, towards cost of living outreach support

There's still £65,000 left in the pot, for charities, non-profit groups, town and parish councils, schools and others to apply for.

Leader of Test Valley Borough Council, councillor Phil North said:

“We’re delighted that we have been able to increase the budget for the Cost of Living Grant scheme. In just a few months we have provided nearly £35,000, showing how popular and how important this scheme has been for the people of Test Valley.

"The increase to £100,000 means we will be able to continue supporting our local organisations who, in turn, will be able to provide help and guidance to those in the borough who may be struggling with the rising cost of living. I would really encourage any eligible groups to submit an application.”
