A sanctuary near Corsham has been given permission to carry on helping sick, injured and unwanted animals.

Coppershell Animal Rescue opened in 2019 on a 62-acre site at Garston. It looks after traditional farm animals including sheep, pigs, chickens and cows, along with a small number of other animals including donkeys, alpacas, emus and tortoises.

Working with the RSPCA, police, and other rescue animal organisations, the registered charity takes in approximately 30 animals a month, and around 300 animals live at the sanctuary at any one time.

Since the sanctuary opened, around 3,000 animals have been cared for, and many have been rehomed.

Last summer, enforcement officers from Wiltshire Council told the charity they would need permission to change the use of the land from agricultural. The sanctuary applied, and planning permission was granted last week.
