Consultation launched on proposed controlled zone outside schools in Laverstock
Detailed plans have now been drawn up
People are being asked to have their say on a plan to introduce a controlled zone on Church Road in Laverstock.
There are three secondary schools and one primary along that road, which means around 2,000 students arrive and leave through the village every week day.
For the last year a group involving senior leaders from the schools, the Parish Council, Wiltshire Council and local residents have been meeting to try and address some of the issues.
At a public meeting organised by the Parish Council last year, there was considerable support for increased restrictions to try and prevent some of the worst parking, although there was also concern about the possibility of too many restrictions and lines on the road making the village feel too suburban.
WHAT COULD BE DONE ABOUT IT?
Plans have now been drawn up which would see a controlled zone introduced on Church Road.
It would mean that along the entire zone there would be a no waiting restriction from 2-4pm meaning that cars would not be able to wait in the area.
A single yellow line would be put in place in areas where there isn't already one to indicate the restriction, while signs will also be installed at the start and end of the zone.
There would be new double yellow lines at the entrances to Elm Close, the Bishopdown Path and Bishops Mead, protecting parking either on Church Road or just into these roads at any time.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE PLANS?
Laverstock and Ford Parish Council are now asking residents to have their say on the plans.
Before they can proceed with these proposed restrictions, they want as much feedback as possible.
A online survey has been set up for people to make their views heard.
You can fill that in by going to the Parish Council's website.
