Chance to get hands-on with conservation at Stonehenge
English Heritage's Conservation in Action bus is visiting
There's a rare chance to get hands-on with conservation at Stonehenge over the next couple of weeks.
A special bus filled with activities like stone shaping and masonry has been brought to the stone circle by English Heritage.
Their Conservation in Action programme aims to show visitors about the care given to some of the country's most historic properties and monuments.
The van will be at Stonehenge until Sunday (25th June) and again from Thursday 29th June to Monday 3rd July.
It's part of a nationwide tour of English Heritage sites.
Visitors can book a session as they arrive on the day, and volunteers will show them a range of practical skills.
English Heritage Head of Collections Conservation Amber Xavier-Rowe said:
“We are offering a range of practical activities where visitors can get really hands on and start to understand some of the concepts behind the conservation of our properties, collections and landscapes.
“We’ve designed them in a way for families, so young and old, to interact and think about the decisions behind the conservation of our monuments. And our visitors will be able to actually do a bit of it on some practical examples to get insight into the careful thinking and craft skills that are behind the conservation of our monuments.”
