Salisbury FC is encouraging its supporters to donate unwanted clothes, as a way to raise funds for Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

A new clothes donation point has been installed on the club's car park, at the end of Partridge Way in Old Sarum.

Commercial Manager at Salisbury FC, Ian Pearson, told Greatest Hits Radio the idea for the club to partner with the charity came from a local resident and club supporter:

"It was suggested to us by one of our supporters, Sandra Ellis, who thought it would be good to use a little bit of the spare space in our car park and enable the community to donate unwanted clothes.

"The donation point is located just inside the main entrance to our car park, which enables supporters to drop their unwanted clothes on a match day but also is in a good position for the local community around our stadium to drop off any clothes donations as well.

"It's a charity we've supported for many years, especially Bev and Sandra Ellis who've been doing cakes for cash on match days and also collecting crisp packets which the air ambulance used to use for fundraising.

"We hope everyone will get involved and we can raise some money for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance."

Unwanted clothes can be donated which will be shipped and sold to vintage an boutique shops abroad.

Profits from those sales will go back to Wiltshire Air Ambulance, as a spokesperson for Recycling Solutions - who run the scheme since 2020 - explained:

"The clothing is taken to our warehouse in Bishops Waltham and is bailed for onward shipping and sorting abroad.

Depending on the items donated they can be sent to vintage or boutique shops in Europe or to warmer countries (t-shirts and shorts).

"The (Wiltshire Air Ambulance) charity receive funds for all stock sold."

The charity receives ÂŁ210 for every tonne of clothing collected.

Since June 2020, more than 58 clothing banks have been placed across the county, raising over ÂŁ50,000 for Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
