Wiltshire Council bin collections a day late this week

If you're overflowing with rubbish, you don't have to hold out too long!

Now the Christmas festivities are in full swing, you might be wondering when all that extra rubbish that builds up can be cleared.

Wiltshire Council are giving their refuse collectors today (Monday 26th December), so all collections will be a day late this week.

So if you normally have you bin emptied on a Monday, it'll be tomorrow (Tuesday 27th December), through until Friday's collections being taken away on Saturday (31st December).

Despite the Bank Holiday next week (Monday 2nd January), pick-ups will be on their normal days.

In the Test Valley, it's the same system but for two weeks, with all bin collections pushed back a day.

Normal pick-up days resume on Monday 9th January 2023.

In the New Forest, it's a bit more complicated.

If your black and clear sacks are due to be collected today (Monday 26th December), they'll be picked up on Monday 2nd January.

If your glass box is due to be collected today, it'll be taken on Saturday 31st December.

Battery recycling proving successful in Wiltshire

A new service to recycle batteries in our blue bins in Wiltshire looks to be doing well, just a few weeks in too.

More than six tonnes of D, C, AA, AAA, 9V and button batteries have already been recycled through the system, since December 5th, when it was introduced.

The collections have been brought in to prevent fires at waste facilities, as well as protecting the environment and helping the authority to recycle as much as possible.

A range of battery types can now be recycled in Wiltshire Council bins

Cllr Dr Mark McClelland, Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Waste, said:

“I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to introduce battery collections in time for Christmas when many of us will typically use more.

“Collections at the kerbside are much quicker and easier for residents and also make it less likely that people will dispose of batteries in the bin, which is linked to hundreds of fires at waste facilities every year.

“If people continue to take advantage of the new battery collection service, we can recycle even more of what we use in Wiltshire this Christmas.”
