People living in the Yewstock Crescent area of Chippenham are being warned of cold callers offering gardening work.

It's been reported to Wiltshire Trading Standards that traders are knocking on doors claiming they're working "down the road".

However there is no evidence on this and they are said to be "pushy" in nature.

Trading Standards are advising us not to engage with cold callers.

The authority said: "Our advice is not to agree to work offered by unsolicited doorstep callers. Instead choose a business which has been recommended or find a reputable trader at www.buywithconfidence.gov.uk.

"Doorstep callers often carry out poor quality, overpriced work and do not provide the statutory paperwork giving you the right to change your mind.

"Any business removing waste from your property should have a waste carrier's licence and should leave you a receipt for your waste which you should retain as proof."

Unlicenced carriers of waste will often fly-tip at roadsides or beauty spots, for which we are still liable. We could face an unlimited fine if our waste is fly-tipped and we cannot show we took adequate steps to prevent it.
