Chippenham charity beginning office return after Storm Bert wash out
Doorway suffered extensive flood damage during November's storm
A Wiltshire charity has given us an update on returning to its main offices after being washed out during Storm Bert last year.
Chippenham-based Doorway, which supports rough sleepers, suffered severe flooding during the storm in November.
The charity recently held a 'sleep out' event, raising £6,000.
The organisation has been continuing to support homeless people from the town's Rotary Hall, but the charity is beginning to get back into its permanent home, using the upstairs sections of the building.
Facilities manager Sarah McClymont told us refurbishment work is set to begin.
"There's positive movement downstairs," she said, adding: "We're in a position where builders are going to start coming in and start doing stuff, albeit taking ceilings down or doing the rewiring."
Sarah said it was "small steps" but they're confident of a full return being swift once work gets fully up to speed.
She said the return would be a massive boost, not only to the charity, but also to its clients.
"Our guests crave to be back in our building. It's something they associate with support and comfort. But as a home.
"It has unsettled a lot of our guests, so for us to be able to be back in our building that they recognise and feel comfortable in, is really important for them," Sarah told us.
She told us the building is going be "better than it was before" and that there is an assurance that procedures and policies to protect from flooding will be put in place.
