Chilmark charity Serve On still working in Turkey
A team's been helping with search and rescue efforts following a huge earthquake
Search and rescue volunteers from Wiltshire-based charity Serve On are still working away in Turkey.
It's been more than a week after the country and neighbouring Syria were struck by a devastating earthquake - which has left more than 35,000 people dead.
The charity's director of operations, Dan Cooke, who’s in Turkey at the moment, has told us how the group's feeling:
"It's a really tricky time, we're having to give bad news to people on a regular basis, and then move on to the next task. What's going through our minds is making sure that we're making the right decisions, putting the beneficiaries first - the people who are actually affected - and making the right choices around them."
A team of volunteers from all over the country are working alongside other international teams using their specialist skills and knowledge to seek out survivors.
They've been supported by more volunteers at the charity's Chilmark base, helping with mapping, logistics and communications.
The group’s director of operations, Dan Cooke, spoke from Turkey about navigating this stage of the operation:
"There is hope - it's running out time wise - but it's a really demanding situation. We've been here many times (with similar disasters) and it's really difficult stage between rescue and recovery."
The group's expecting to be out in Turkey until later this week, and had previously said they would only stay for as long as they're needed on the ground.
Serve On's work is funded through donations to the charity - you can find out more on their website.
