Chickens die after lorry overturns on A303 near Stonehenge

A lorry carrying 6,200 live chickens overturned on the A303 this morning near to Stonehenge on Longbarrow Roundabout.

The force were called to the incident at around 4:30am this morning.

Wiltshire Police have been on scene leading the recovery and have confirmed that some of the animals died in the incident.

Some have also escaped.

The exact numbers have not been confirmed.

The driver of the HGV was not injured.

One lane eastbound had to be shut while police and recovery agents tried to deal with the situation.

There were many reports of heavy traffic built up in the area this morning, with people being asked to find alternative routes if they could.
