A volunteer from Salisbury has flown to Moldova to help a UK charity to support local organisations in Ukraine and Moldova.

More than 314,000 have fled the conflict to the small neighbouring country of Moldova with the government there saying it is 'at 'breaking point.'

Jane Ebel is a trustee of the BEARR Trust which has raised more than £130,000 through an appeal.

Financial donations are distributed where needed to local organisations on the ground in both Moldova and in Ukraine to help with things like medical support, medicine, petrol, supporting evacuations by car, food and bedding.

Jane told us the big charities are already in Moldova with short term needs being met like clothing whereas support is needed longer term.

"The big agencies, the embassies, UNHCR are on the ground and the lorries are coming in. The capital city is top heavy with people assessing the situation and how they can help. The sub story which we want to tell is that 80 per cent of people coming into Moldova are staying with families here in Moldova and Moldova is the poorest country in Europe. These people have opened their homes, taken families in, they often don't have running water themselves and they're providing fuel, food putting the children in school. They've provided loving homes for them, these are the people we are trying to help."
