Salisbury's nightclub, The Chapel, has been sold off by its owners of the last quarter of a century.

The Milford Street venue has been bought by Epic Bars and Clubs, which currently have nine other sites across the country.

In a statement released on social media, previous owners Jonty and Amanda Newbery said their time in the business has been '25 challenging years of fun and excitement'.

They also believe The Chapel 'now has a chance to move into a big league of national operators who have the resources to take the club to the next level'.

Jonty Newbury, Director of Knightwood Leisure said:

"I've had the experience of a lifetime since we opened The Chapel in 1997, but in the last few years, I've just loved being a pub landlord and look forward to concentrating on my time at The Duke of York and with my new friends."

Knightwood Leisure also owns the Brown Street live music and street food venue.

Amanda Newbery, Managing Director of Knightwood Leisure, said:

"When Epic approached us earlier this year, we knew it was time to hand over to a team of people who can give The Chapel every bit of love and care that it needs.

Their plans sound fantastic, these people have been in the business for many years and know exactly what they're doing. We want this to be a massive success for the Salisbury night time economy and we know they have the very best chance from checking out the previous projects that they've been involved with.

"For now, Adam, Nick and I have lovely plans for Brown Street - there's lots more to come from us - we're not going anywhere!"

The Chapel has been a staple of Salisbury's nightlife for decades

No further details about what this means for The Chapel have been released at this stage, but there's a reassurance that nothing will change immediately.

Mark Shorting, Chief Executive of Epic Bars and Clubs said:

"We are delighted to be able to acquire such a landmark venue to add to our growing portfolio of fantastic nightclubs across England and Wales. We have exciting development plans to enhance this superb venue which we will finalise once we have taken on all of the comments and ideas from customers and staff.

"For now, The Chapel will continue to operate exactly as it always has, but customers will notice exciting changes in the coming weeks and Salisbury's nightlife should benefit from everything that Epic has planned for The Chapel."
