Organisers of the Chalke History Festival have told Greatest Hits Radio they're expecting a record attendance across the week-long event.

Last year, the Broad Chalke event saw a record-setting 55-thousand visitors, but say ahead of the 2024 festival's final day they're already above last year's figures.

There'll be more spaces at each of the talks at Chalke in 2025, as all entry tickets allow access to every event next year

Programme Director Laura Bailey told us the week has gone smoothly so far.

She said: "It has been a fantastic week so far, very busy and full of school kids, amazing living history and fantastic talks.

"We've had live music every night and beautiful sunshine. It's been a great week."

Over 2,000 school children have visited the festival this week where they've seen the past brought to life.

Laura said: "They've all been involved in doing living history from Iron Age up to Cold War, hands on interactive activities too, as well as a whole programme of talks all tailored to the curriculum, so they've all had a great time.

"It's definitely one of the highlights of the week for us. They get a chance to engage with the real, tangible elements of history."

The children have been able to see things like iron age swords being made, as well firing weapons into armour.

And with today (Sunday 30th June) being the festival's final day, it's set for a spectacular conclusion.

"We have an amazing programme of talks and then we've got hopefully weather dependent, a hurricane fly past at 4pm," Laura said.
