An operation aimed at preventing animal accidents in the New Forest has seen 150 cars stopped and 40 fines issued over the last year.

Op Mountie, led by Hampshire Police, has had support from Forestry England, the New Forest National Park Authority, New Forest District Council, the New Forest Roads Awareness Campaign and the Commoners Defence Association.

Now, certificates have been handed out to those groups, to recognise their efforts.

New Forest District Commander, Chief Inspector Nick Marsden, has met with representatives to give them Certificates of Congratulations.

On social media, police said:

"Whatever the weather we, and our partners, will continue to be out this winter helping to reduce accidents involving forest animals.

"Please remember, a speed limit is a limit, not a target! Drive to the conditions of the roads this winter - thank you."
