Two cars have been seized by police, with a number of drivers given 'words of advice' following some dedicated traffic stops in Amesbury.

Neighbourhood officers have been joined by the Roads Policing Unit for a night of targeted action on Saturday (5th October).

They based themselves at Solstice Park, and stopped a total of 28 vehicles.

Five drivers were breathalysed at the roadside, with drivers also spoken to about various light defects in their vehicles.

One of the seized cars was stopped for having no insurance or tax, while the other wasn't insured and the driver didn't have a licence.

Officers also put leaflets about the so-called 'Fatal Five' factors in serious collisions onto windscreens in Amesbury's Central car park, on Salisbury Street and the High Street in the town centre.

The Fatal Five are the main causes of many fatal crashes in Wiltshire - with police highlighting the need to prevent excess speed, not wearing a seatbelt, careless driving, using a phone, and drink or drug driving.

The traffic operation also comes after similar actions in Salisbury Plain towns and villages. |newtab)
