Campaign to recruit more carers backed by Steeple Langford residents
Doris and Ken feature in a new promo video
A video's been released by a nationwide healthcare company to show appreciation for carers across the country.
It features Ken and Doris from Steeple Langford and is part of a campaign by Cera to attract more staff into the sector.
Data from Skills for Care show there are around 105,000 advertised vacancies for carers on an average day in England.
A survey also suggests the job is well needed - with 43% of those being looked after saying their couldn't live without their carer, and 46% saying they couldn't physically get out of bed if they didn't get visits.
In the video, which is described as a 'letter to carers', Doris says her carer means the world to her:
"When Megan comes, she keeps me company. It's nice to have them coming in, you know they're coming so you look forward to that. She makes life worth living. (I'd like to) thank them very much for looking after me, being so kind, and listening to me if I need some help."
Ken features in the video and explains what his carer does for him:
"(They) make a cup of tea and talk. Their company is very good, I look forward to seeing them every day."
Felix Wetzel, Director of Carer Acquisition at Cera, said:
“Over the past two years, the majority of us have experienced what it's like to care for people outside of our families - from staying at home to protect the most vulnerable, checking in on an elderly neighbour or dropping off food for someone in isolation. The feeling of caring and making a difference to the lives of others is incomparable.
"As our video shows, carers are not just keyworkers, they are genuinely integral to people’s lives. We want to encourage more and more people to consider a meaningful career in care. It doesn’t matter what stage of your career you’re at, if you’re reliable, empathetic and friendly, it's time to consider joining the caring profession.”
