A year on from being seized by police in Calne after being discovered malnourished, a dog has made an incredible recovery.

Rusty was found at a property in Dixon Way during a warrant in May 2024.

He was living in a kitchen that was full of rubbish and was malnourished. Rusty was taken to kennels for medical attention and has now been rehomed.

Rusty's since been rehomed and is in a much better way

38 year old Paul Brewster, from Dixon Way, pleaded guilty to being responsible for an animal to ensure welfare and causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal at Swindon Magistrates Court last month (30th April).

Brewster was fined £285 and ordered to pay a £114 surcharge and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Rusty needed specialist care after being found in Calne having suffered neglect

PC Lizzie Wright from Wiltshire Police, said: “This was a terrible case of animal cruelty. The dog was found to be living in a kitchen full of junk, including its own faeces.

"It did not have a water bowl, and we could not find any dog food in the house – a clear failure to provide the dog’s most basic needs. Rusty was incredibly malnourished, and its skin was visibly in a bad shape."

We're encouraged to report cases of cruelty to an animal, including physical violence or neglect to the RSPCA.

Wiltshire Police works alongside the charity to investigate incidents.

In addition if your partner, ex-partner or a family member has harmed or threatened to harm your pet, this can be a form of domestic abuse.
