Two people questioned after racially aggravated attack

Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses after a bus driver was assaulted in Durrington.

It happened at about 10.15pm on March 22 in High Street, but details have only just been released.

A man and a woman were waiting at a bus stop when an X4 bus run by Salisbury Reds arrived.

The bus driver, a man in his 40s, was assaulted at the bus stop and suffered a head injury.

He was taken to Southampton Hospital by air ambulance, however, his injuries were fortunately not as serious as initially thought.

A man in his 50s, from Devizes, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of criminal damage, racially/religiously aggravated harassment and section 18 GBH. A woman in her 40s, from Melksham, was arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent and using threatening/abusive words or behaviour.

Both have been released while enquiries are ongoing.

WITNESS APPEAL

Police want to hear from anyone who was on the bus at the time, or in the area, and witnessed the incident.
