Salisbury named one of the worst areas in the county for burglaries
Moneysupermarket.com has analysed over 7 million insurance quotes
Research by a price comparison website has found Salisbury is the worst area in Wiltshire for burglaries.
Moneysupermarket.com analysed over seven million home insurance quotes since 2020 to discover the UK postcodes with the highest claims of burglary.
While Salisbury doesn’t have the highest number of claims in Wiltshire, a postcode covering our City appeared five times, with SP5 having the most number of claims, at 13.31 per 1000.
SP5 covers areas around the city such as Odstock, Downton and Coombe Bissett and is also the largest postcode district on the list.
SP1 follows with an average of 8.11 claims per 1000, while SP3 and SP2 have 5.51 and 5.28 claims respectively.
SP4 is the lowest Salisbury postcode at 3.52 per 1000 claims.
David McDermottroe, home insurance expert at MoneySuperMarket said burglary claims last year were up 106% compared to 2020.
“While it’s not a surprise to see the list of burglary hotspots dominated by large cities, it is interesting to learn that a large proportion of people in rural areas aren’t protecting their homes with a burglar alarm.
“Although this type of crime may be less common in those areas, unfortunately, no one is immune to burglars. If we take simple and effective preventative measures like installing an alarm, investing in decent locks for windows and doors and keeping valuables such as laptops and keys out of sight it will not only make our homes less attractive to burglars, but it will be harder for them to break in.”
