Bosses at Bradbeers have confirmed to Greatest Hits Radio Salisbury that they are opening a department store in the city.

The new shop will fill the closed Debenhams store on Blue Boar Row. It is a family owned business with stores in New Milton, Hedge End and Romsey.

Bradbeers own the building which art teachers from Bishop Wordsworth's School have painted a mural on.

Over the last couple of weeks Sam Redhill has been working on the piece with staff, students and parents.

Headteacher of the school, Dr Stuart Smallwood, described it as a celebration of the Wiltshire countryside.

The go ahead for the project was given by Salisbury City Council and the CEO of Bradbeers; who plan to open their new city centre shop by the end of 2022.

A Spokesperson from there told Greatest Hits Radio Salisbury:

"The unprecedented events of the past eighteen months have led to a challenging time for the retail sector. As an independent business, we have faced these challenges with the resolve that has been in place since we started trading in 1837. We currently remain committed to Salisbury and, although our plans have inevitably had to be adjusted due to the current economic climate, we hope to be in a position to open a Bradbeers Department Store by the end of 2022."
