"Rude and irresponsible" is how Riverbourne Community Farm have described the people/person who dumped a box of chickens on their farm.

The Laverstock site had the birds emptied into one of their paddocks on Sunday (4th July), while they were open.

Two of the birds flew away and have not been found since, while one remained in the paddock.

The farm was open during the day when the incident happened

The farm took to Facebook to say that this poses a lot of dangers to the other animals already there as they could bring in e-coli or salmonella which would wipe out their entire flock of hens.

In a post, they said:

"WE ARE NOT A RESCUE OR REHOMING CENTRE!

We are really angry about the people who thought it was a good idea to empty a box of chickens (probably cockerels) in one of our paddocks today - while we were open! How rude and irresponsible.

At least have the decency to ask us- we always try and help but we’re not a rescue centre. If they’d given us the box we could have at least put them in a temporary pen and kept them safe. We’ve only managed to catch the one in photo and at least two flew out onto the lane so will probably get killed by a fox or run over.

Even worse, they could bring e-coli or salmonella onto the farm which would wipe out our entire flock of hens!!

Please don’t dump animals on our farm - it puts our animals at risk. Call us first as we will try and help or point you in the right direction for other organisations who can help.

If anyone knows who did this, please call or email us."
