20 bins stores coming to Salisbury to clean up City centre
The City centre will soon look much nicer!
20 bin stores are to be installed on New Canal and Queen Street to help keep pedestrian areas clear of commercial bins in Salisbury City centre.
Businesses on Ox Row, Butcher Row and Fish Row will be able to use the bins provided by Wiltshire Council, with the bins situated on the accesses to all three rows.
Installation will begin from 17th July.
As well as making the City visually more attractive, it is hoped that in hotter weather, the lack of bins stacked up outside business will improve the smell around Salisbury.
It is businesses’ responsibility to ensure their bins are not left out on the highway, including pavements and walkways, as they are both unsightly and unwelcoming to locals and visitors alike,” said Cllr Caroline Thomas, Cabinet Member for Street Scene.
Cllr Thomas recognised the challenges the historic buildings pose with no access to private waste storage areas, saying the council were taking the ‘pragmatic’ approach.
“We have liaised with businesses in the area to work together on any specific bin storage issues they may have, and to establish the frequency of their bin collections, and we hope this approach will resolve the issues.”
The businesses on each row will have responsibility for ensuring their bin store is kept clean.
