Free bike security session in Downton and Woodfalls

Measures to deter thieves

Author: Henrietta CreaseyPublished 14th Apr 2022

Police are offering people the chance to have a security label put on their bike today in Downton and Woodfalls in a bid to deter thieves.

The Salisbury Neighbourhood Policing team will be outside the Co-op in Downton between 12:30-13:30 and in the carpark of Morgans Vale & Woodfalls village hall between 2:30-3:30pm.

Police will be marking bikes outside Morgans Vale and Woodfalls Hall later.

A sticker or a chemical etching compound will be applied to bikes.

The unique number is then stored on the national cycle database, BikeRegister, where it can be entered to identify the owner.

Registering will enable the rightful owner to be traced and could reunite them with their bike if stolen.

Bikes are often the target for shed and outbuilding burglaries, with a spate of that type of crime in the area recently.
