The number of recorded coronavirus cases in Wiltshire increased by 149 in the last 24 hours, according to official figures.

That's the largest daily increase since the start of the pandemic, but could be down to more tests now being carried out.

* Public Health England data shows that 6,581 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Wednesday (December 23) in Wiltshire

* That's up from 6,432 the same time on Tuesday

* The rate of infection in Wiltshire now stands at 1,316 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 3,268

The health body is now including Pillar 2 tests - those carried out by commercial partners - alongside Pillar 1 tests, which are analysed in NHS or PHE laboratories and which made up the first stage of the Government's mass testing programme.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 39,237 over the period, to 2,149,551.

Wiltshire's cases were among the 99,301 recorded across the South West, a figure which rose by 1,318 over the period.

Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.
