The match will remember former Vice-Chairman Clive Leonard

A charity football match to support the Salisbury Hospice is being held at Bemerton Heath Harlequins Moon Park this afternoon (Saturday 27th May).

The match on will feature 'Harlequins Legends' from years gone by, taking on 'Salisbury All Stars' containing players from other local clubs.

The Bemmy team will be taking to the pitch in memory of former vice-chairman Clive ‘Leo’ Leonard, who passed away earlier this year.

Director of Football Ian Saunders told us the club chose to support the Hospice after they cared for Mr Leonard before his passing:

"Leo left notes to say how happy he had been with the people at the Hospice and that they'd done the best they could in the time he had left."

Harlequins gained promotion this season to Step 4 of the Football Pyramid, the highest level the club has ever played at and the current squad will have their achievements recognised after the match on Saturday.

Ian said holding the seasonal awards night was a "natural progression", he said:

"We thought it was appropriate because having a lot of ex-Harlequin lads there makes it a bit more personal."

The club has also added to their ranks in recent weeks, announcing their first ever ladies team, Ian says it's something they've been looking at for a while:

"It was an appropriate step really to get the ladies team on board. We've got a full set of of youth sides, under 18 team, men's reserve team and men's senior team and now, brilliantly, we've got a ladies side that will play the every Sunday next year.

The match kicks off at 2.00pm, with entry costing £3.

Post-match entertainment will come from Lucy Loves Liquor, who will be performing into the evening.

And after securing an historic promotion for the club, the current squad will also have their end of season awards after the charity fixture.
