Salisbury District Hospital's Maternity Unit saw 222 births in August compared to 169 in the same month in 2020.

That was more than the team predicted.

Hannah Boyd, Interim Head of Maternity and Neonatal Services, said:

"It's been a busy month for the Maternity Team, everyone has been worked so hard providing care to families over the summer months, and we have all been surprised at the number of babies born. It's always a privilege for the team to help bring new life into the world.”

"We can never be certain why some months are busier for births than others; as a team we speculate on the reasons but August certainly took us by surprise!"

Oh baby! Staff had a busy month at Salisbury District Hospital.

A new maternity entrance and reception has recently opened at Salisbury District Hospital funded by the Stars Appeal.

It's part of plans to improve the experience for expectant mothers and their families.
