Two arrested following burglary at Salisbury antiques store

The men were stopped by police in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday 14th October).

Wiltshire Police were called at around 3.45am today by a member of the public who was on their way home from work.

They saw two men breaking into the antiques store on Catherine Street.

The antiques market was broken into early this morning, with silverware and jewellery taken

When police arrived, they found a broken window and detained one man straight away.

Another man tried to run away, but was quickly stopped by officers.

Jewellery and silverware was removed from the store, but it was all recovered by police.

Two men in their 40s, who are both from Salisbury, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and are in custody in Melksham.

Salisbury Inspector Pete Sparrow said:

"This was an excellent result - thanks to the vigilant member of the public who reported the suspicious activity, officers were able to arrive immediately at the scene and detain two men - a quantity of antiques and jewellery was also recovered and our enquiries remain ongoing."
