Man arrested after reports of disorder in Downton involving garden shears

Wiltshire Police were called to Moot Lane in Downton shortly after 7pm following reports of a disorder.

Members of the public reported seeing a man causing damage to two cars and a bus stop with a long handled gardening tool.

The force says "officers were quickly on the scene."

ARREST

A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage, possession of an offensive weapon and affray.

He is currently in police custody.

There were no reports of injuries during the incident.

Acting Police Sergeant Chris Noke said:

"I would like to reassure people in Downton who may have been concerned to see this disturbance that we acted quickly to detain this individual and there is no further risk to the public."
