Remembrance services will be held across Wiltshire today as people gather to mark Armistice Day.

The day, which honours the agreement to cease fighting in Europe during the first world war, is an opportunity for us all to reflect on those who've served and given the ultimate sacrifice.

Ceremonies will take place at Salisbury Guildhall and Chippenham town hall, among others, this morning.

Wiltshire-based veteran, Spencer Bull explained what it means to him.

He said: "It's the one day that we come together as a nation, and we remember those who get a role, simple as that. But of course, remembrance is more than one day, you could argue it should be every day of the year.

"But this is the one time of the year, almost this day, when everyone gets together and we do a two minute silence."

Spencer, who now works with Help for Heroes, the veterans charity based in Downton, as a peer support trainer in the charity's Recovery College, said it's vital everyone takes the two minutes to reflect.

"In many ways it's about keeping our promise to the veterans and all those who served and their families that we will continue to remember them because they gave their all in order that we can live the lives that we live now. And I think that's really important."

He added that it's healthy for us to simply take two minutes for our own well-being.

Spencer was part of the parade of veterans at the Cenotaph for Remembrance Sunday and highlights it's not just about remembering those who have laid down their lives for our freedoms.

"There are some who are with us, quite a few have a living with mental injuries or physical injuries, but there are just those who are finding it tough and if we can do anything to support them, that's great. And we need to remember them too," he said.

He also wants the period of remembrance to be used to educate the younger generation that we can lead the lives we do because of the actions of those who served in the World War's and other conflicts.
