Armistice Day is being marked in Salisbury today (Saturday 11th November), with the dedication of the newly installed plaques on the city’s War Memorial.

Three new plaques were added to the Guildhall side of the cenotaph in October with the names of local service people who died during the Second World War.

People can gather in the Guildhall Square for the service this morning, where the Royal British Legion (RBL) Band will be performing.

A ceremony will be led by the Salisbury Branch of the RBL, with Mayor of Salisbury Cllr Atiqul Hoque, Salisbury City Councillors and Deputy Lieutenant Mr Luke March in attendance.

From around 10.40am, a service will be led by Reverend Kelvin Inglis, with a two-minute silence being observed at 11am, followed by the national anthem and prayers.

Meanwhile, the residents of Redlynch have been marking the period of Remembrance by placing thousands of crocheted poppies on the War Memorial at Bowers Hill.
