ANOTHER Parish Meeting to be held in Salisbury over council tax
It'll be repeated later this month
A second parish meeting's been called in Salisbury - as residents question a large proposed increase in the council tax precept.
The gathering, planned for the Guildhall on Wednesday 15th March at 6.00pm, is not a City Council meeting, but instead one that's called for people living in the parish area.
It's to discuss a proposed council tax rise of 44% in the next financial year, and whether there should be a limit on the amount that can be charged by the authority.
The meeting will also ask of a referendum should be held within Salisbury, if a council tax precept rise of more than 5% is put forward.
There are two 'motions' to be discussed and voted on during the meeting:
1. To be discussed
To discuss a precept cap of 5% on future Salisbury City Council budgets, and obligation to call a parish meeting if an administration wants to increase the precept by more than 5%
2. Poll
a. To consider the demand for a poll on item 1
b. To agree the question for the poll
A previous, well-attended parish meeting last month did vote in favour of a cap on council tax increases, and therefore a referendum.
But there was confusion as to what would happen next, leading to another being called by local residents.
