Salisbury parkrun return pushed back for third time
New date set after 'freedom' day delayed
Last updated 17th Jun 2021
Fans of parkrun will have to wait a little longer to get their regular fix in Churchill Gardens after Boris Johnson's announcement that the final stage of unlocking Covid restrictions would be delayed for a month.
The popular free 5K events had orginally hoped to return on June 5th that was then pushed back until June 26th because of issues with using the space.
Whilst Salisbury City Council had given permission not enough local authorities had and a big push to get more on board was launched a few weeks ago.
Now with the final stage of the roadmap pushed back until July 19th a new "intended" start date has been set of July 24th.
That's because many local authorities across the country only gave permission for parkrun under the condition of the country moving into Step 4.
In a statement parkrun said:
"A huge amount of work has been done in recent weeks to ensure we have permission to return from the large majority of landowners. Whilst this delay is disappointing, we respect the fact that a significant number of these permissions were contingent on the country moving into Step 4, and we will therefore target a new reopening date of Saturday 24 July."
Meanwhile Moors Valley parkun won't be returning until "after the busy summer period."
The moves follows discussions with the landowner of the popular family park and activity site.
The group says "whilst this is disappointing, we respect their decision and look forward to returning as soon as we can."
