It's been confirmed that another person has passed away at Salisbury District Hospital, having tested positive for Covid 19.

A woman in her 70s, with underlying health conditions, died yesterday (Wednesday 16th March).

That takes the total fatalities at our hospital to 260 since the pandemic began.

In a statement, the Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust said:

"Sadly, we can confirm that a patient who had been cared for at Salisbury District Hospital and had tested positive for COVID-19 died on Wednesday 16th March. The patient was in her 70s and had underlying health conditions. 260 patients in total have now passed away.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with her family and loved ones at this very difficult and distressing time.

"We are still experiencing a high number of COVID-19 positive patients - there are currently 45 COVID-19 positive patients being treated at the hospital.

"We would ask the public to remain cautious and to take appropriate precautions to avoid transmission. Although the government has lifted restrictions, the hospital’s COVID-19 measures remain in place until further notice.

"We remind visitors to the hospital that they must wear a face mask when in the hospital and have a negative lateral flow test before entering the buildings. They should not visit if they have any symptoms of COVID-19. In addition, with the current levels of COVID-19 still in our community, people should take up the invitation for a COVID-19 vaccine when offered. It is never too late to get a first vaccine.”
