Amesbury woman loses £1000 after bank card cloned

Police release CCTV as officers investigate fraud

Wiltshire Police received a report on Saturday (8th May) that a cloned bank card had been used numerous times over a period of months.

The victim, a woman in her 30s, lost a total of £1,000.

Further investigations have revealed that the card was used numerous times at the same cashpoint in Amesbury, withdrawing between £20 and £100 at a time.

The force has released these CCTV image from the cashpoint at the Co-op in Boscombe Road.

A spokesperson for the force said;

"While we appreciate that not all the images are particularly clear, we are hopeful that someone may recognise one or some of the people. Please note, these people may be potential key witnesses."

Anyone who recognises any of the people in the images, or the people themselves, are asked to call Wiltshire Police on 101, quoting crime reference 54210043535.

Action Fraud has detailed information and crime prevention advice on how to protect yourself from falling victim to this type of crime.

This includes:

  • look after your cards and card details at all times. Try not to let your card out of your sight when making a transaction
  • check receipts against statements carefully. Contact your card company immediately if you find an unfamiliar transaction
  • store your statements, receipts and financial documents safely and destroy them, preferably using a shredder, when you dispose of them
  • sign any new cards as soon as they arrive
  • cut expired cards through the magnetic strip and chip when replacement cards arrive.
