AMESBURY: Public exhibition today on proposed new estate at Viney's Farm
We're getting a chance to see the plans and speak with developers
There's a chance for us to find out more about plans for a huge new housing estate planned for the edge of Amesbury tonight (Tuesday 5th July).
A public exhibition's being held at Antrobus House between 3.00pm and 8.00pm as we can see the plans in person, and ask the developers any questions we might have.
WHAT'S PLANNED FOR VINEY'S FARM?
The site off the A345 could have 830 homes built, as well as a care home, food store, children's nursery, medical centre, sports facilities and a footbridge over the main road, linking the new development to the King's and Archer's Gate areas.
We're told the homes would be both open market and affordable, with 180 of the properties being 'age-restricted bungalows' for older people.
A new wastewater treatment works is also part of the proposals.
Martin Miller, a director of planning and design consultancy, Terence O’Rourke Ltd said:
“Viney’s Farm is very well located to accommodate a new development. We would like to create a vibrant, attractive new neighbourhood with community facilities, next to major public transport links, and within walking and cycling distance of the town centre and other facilities in Amesbury.
“We know that new and affordable homes are needed in Amesbury and across Wiltshire, and that Wiltshire Council is looking for sites that can provide this.
“We want to work with partners and the local community to provide a development that responds to this need and offers facilities and open space for local people to enjoy. Based on our work, we believe our proposals could do this in a way that respects landscape and heritage sensitivities for the long term.”
Comments made at today's public exhibition will help to form the planning application for the development.
No date has been set for that to be submitted to Wiltshire Council as yet.
