An Amesbury photographer has beaten his own target to raise £7,000 for two local charities, simply by taking pictures.

Simon Ward got out to the homes and businesses of South Wiltshire in the run-up to Christmas, in support of the Stars Appeal at Salisbury District Hospital and Julia's House children's hospice.

Simon took photos across South Wiltshire for the latest edition of his Doorstep Snaps initiative

The idea saw Simon visit households, companies or organisations, taking a picture on the doorstep, in return for donations.

It's the 5th edition of the initiative, with the idea first starting during the Covid 19 lockdowns, and continuing over the last two festive seasons.

He's now raised a total of £7,347.

That's broken down to £3,021 for Julia's House and £4,326 for the Stars Appeal.

Simon's told Greatest Hits Radio:

"I’m delighted that Doorsteps achieved another milestone by exceeding £7,000 by Christmas Eve. Thanks so much to everyone who took part and joined in with the fun whilst raising money for two fantastic local charities.

"Lots of new families took part for the first time plus some families who have taken part four or five times previously. Doorstep Snaps is now put to bed for another year and will return next December, so long as people still want to take part."

Simon says he's planning to bring the idea back next Christmas
