An Amesbury man's been hit with £1,000 in fines for flytipping.

Wiltshire Council had investigated after reports of rubbish left in three locations along Stockport Road.

Environmental Enforcement officers traced the waste back to its owner, who said he was moving house and he'd dumped the items as the local Household Recycling Centre was closed that day.

The rubbish was traced by to the owner by Wiltshire Council

A £1,000 fixed penalty notice has been issued.

The man can't be named, as the fines aren't a criminal conviction.

Cllr Nick Holder, Cabinet Member for Highways and Street Scene, said:

“There really is no excuse for fly-tipping and we continue to take a zero-tolerance stance to anyone found to be dumping their rubbish. In this case, the resident could simply have waited until the following day, for the household recycling centre to reopen and got rid of his waste legally, but he chose the wrong option and has been rightly penalised.

“As this case shows, our Environment Enforcement officers will investigate and pursue those responsible, in line with our Business Plan commitment. We will fine or prosecute anyone caught illegally dumping rubbish in our beautiful county.”

The Council's taken action against the owner of the rubbish, saying they should have held onto it and taken it to the dump
