Amesbury Fire Station could make full-time switch
Watch Manager Paul Vickery wants the station to become integral to the community
Amesbury’s Fire Station could be stepping up its efforts to serve the local community.
We’ve been told by Watch Manager Paul Vickery that Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service are hoping to make the station whole-time and on-call.
Paul explained that the first pump way in the daytime would be crewed by whole-time staff, with on-call being predominantly at night.
If this change goes ahead, it would come into force from January 2024.
But there’s another goal Paul has in mind for the station.
“My personal goal, as Watch Manager of Amesbury, I want the second pump on the run, as in available to the public, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
Paul told Greatest Hits Radio that he joined the whole-time service back in 2002 and found it was very much part of the community.
“The camaraderie and the centre of the community is what I really like, so I’d like the fire station to become more integral within the whole community,” he said.
