An Amesbury resident who lost his home to a fire in a block of flats has set up a GoFundMe page to support the victims.

Reece Halsey lost his home in the fire that engulfed the block on Sandell Place.

On the crowd funding page Mr Halsey said: “We have lost everything we own and only have the clothes on our backs. We don’t have house insurance as it’s one of those things you don’t think will ever happen to you.

“Any help, big or small will be forever grateful.”

Almost ÂŁ4,000 has been raised so far.

The blaze which forced many families out of their homes started in Friday evening, with crews from Amesbury, Salisbury, two from Warminster, Tisbury and Mere attending the incident.

Crews from Andover, Winchester, and Basingstoke, who provided an aerial ladder platform, also assisted at the scene.

The crews were called at 7:09pm with their stop at 1:56am on Saturday. A pair of crews remained on site to monitor for hotspots into Saturday morning.

20 breathing apparatus wearers used the ladder platform, hose jet reels and ladders to extinguish the fire.

No rescues were made as the building was successfully evacuated and an investigation is now underway. That is expected to take some time due to the significant damage caused.
