An inspection at an Amesbury care home has rated the site 'inadequate' overall - and as 'requiring improvement' in some areas.

Camelot Care on Countess Road was assessed by the Care Quality Commission in May this year, with the report now published.

Their last inspection in December 2021, saw them rated as 'good'.

What's wrong at the care home?

Inspectors found serious gaps in safety protocols, including blocked fire escapes, trip hazards, unprotected hot water pipes, and excessively hot water from the taps.

They also found poor cleanliness and infection control, with the carpet in the laundry room described as 'not hygienic'.

Other areas highlighted for improvement included not fully completing monitoring for those residents who needed help with eating and drinking; care plans lacking detail or not always reflecting individual needs; and people's privacy and dignity not always supported.

Are there any good points?

The number of staff to support residents was deemed 'enough', with most training up to date.

People and relatives know how to raise concerns, and staff gave positive feedback about their managers.

What happens now?

Camelot Care has now been placed in 'special measures'.

An action plan has been requested by the CQC to outline the improvements needed and the inspectors will work with the provider to see those through.

The care home will be re-inspected within 6 months, to make sure changes are being made.
