Police are investigating after a spate of vandalism in Amesbury town centre.

Officers say the daubings, on the outside of several buildings, took place on Friday night (August 5th) between 11pm and 11.45pm.

Some of the graffiti was anti police and anti monarchy.

It's understood the culprits were caught on CCTV.

Four members of the Stonehenge Chamber of Trade helped clean up the mess.

Cleaning materials and chemicals for the clean up were sourced from local businesses and paid for by the Chamber with a contribution from Amesbury Autocare who was one of the victims.

Vicky Parks, chair of the Chamber, said; "Since most of the graffiti was on private property then it wouldn't be something the council could clean up, so we decided to take the initiative and do it ourselves".

Vicky Parks (Chair, Stonehenge Chamber of Trade), Louise Parsons (Amesbury Filing Station) Damian Kuczera (Mayor of Amesbury).

Tara Green, who owns a business in the town, commented on social media "I just want to say thank you - my shop was one that had been graffitied. It was such a lovely thing to see when I brought my partner down this afternoon to look so we could sort it."

Wiltshire Police is appealing for information;

"Anyone who might have seen someone acting suspiciously or walking around town at that time can contact us on 101 using the reference number 54220082756."
