Firefighters remain on the scene of a devastating thatch fire in a South Wiltshire village - coming up to 24 hours after the blaze was first reported.

Twelve engines and specialist vehicles were called out to the Crown Inn at Alvediston at around 5.15pm yesterday (Wednesday 10th May).

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue has sent staff from across the region - attending from stations including Shaftesbury, Wilton, Salisbury, Gillingham, Mere, Tisbury, Sturminster Newton, Verwood and Amesbury.

Crews have been working to strip away the thatch to try and contain the fire.

"Progress is still being made steadily with multiple appliances still on scene."
