The alpaca was so badly injured that it had to be put to sleep by the vet.

The incident took place at private address in Furze Hill, a small hamlet near South Gorley.

Hampshire Police said the dog involved was off the lead and is appealing for all owners to ensure they have their pet under control at all times.

"This is the distressing consequence of not having control of your dog. Please be a responsible owner and keep your dog under control."

An investigation is underway.
