One of Wiltshire's biggest charities is offering people the chance to sleep out at Stonehenge in support of rough sleepers.
Salisbury-based organisation Alabaré will be hosting it's latest BIG SLEEP event at the Visitor Centre for the iconic site in November to help it continue offering shelter and services to people affected by homelessness.
The charity says giving up our beds for a night can spark lasting change for many of the hundreds of thousands of people facing the trauma of not having a home across the country, with their services restoring dignity, confidence and hope to the lives of those people.
Among those already taking part is Mayor of Salisbury, Cllr John Wells, who has chosen Alabaré as his charity of the year during his time in the role.
Cllr Wells said: "(Stonehenge) is a really good location from many points of view, not least because it attracts a lot of attention.
“I’m a little uneasy about sleeping out all night at the visitor centre, but I’m sure I’ll cope with it! I’ve slept outside on numerous occasions when I was younger, but it’s been some time since I’ve done it.
“I’m looking forward to joining in with the activity, meeting all the people that’ll be doing the same thing to raise money and I’m sure it’ll be a really exciting event, particularly being at Stonehenge for sunset and sunrise. It’ll be a unique opportunity, and I hope we raise lots of money!”
Mayor of Amesbury, Cllr Dr Monica Devendran is also backing the event. She said: “It’s a powerful reminder that people shouldn’t have to face a night without shelter and have a safe place to sleep, so it’s a fantastic initiative. Together we can make a difference.”
The event takes place on 14th November 2025, with an entry fee of £20 for adults and £10 for children.
Participants will have a fundraising target of £175 (adults) and £100 (children).
